Aims
The course has been developed to benefit anyone who has to carry out any manual handling activities at work by introducing them to the hazards of manual handling, the risks involved and the controls that are available to help prevent injury. This course is accredited by Envex.
Learning objectives
Will allow learners to:-
- understand the risks associated with manual handling and to make recommendations to manage those risks.
- apply the principles of safer handling to a range of everyday manual handling tasks.
Course programme
- Introduction and Background to Legislation: Employer and Employee Duties
- Anatomy, how the skeleton works and how injuries occur
- Lifestyle, age and other factors which affect risk
- Good Handling Techniques (theory with examples): How to carry out Manual Handling Operations Correctly
- Optional video
- Practical Session (Classroom or a nominated environment)
- Discussion and Questions

Course presenter
Andy Large BSc., CMIOSH, MIRM, MFOH. Andy has had many years teaching manual handling courses. As well as his safety and risk qualifications, he has also gained a personal training qualification.
