Legionella responsible person training
Introduction
Employers and those who control premises with any type of hot/cold water services must identify and assess sources of risk; prepare a scheme for preventing or controlling the risk; implement, manage and monitor precautions; keep records and appoint a person who is managerially responsible. This is all laid out to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 in the Health and Safety Commission's ACoP L8 Legionnaires' Disease: The Control of legionella bacteria in Water Systems.
A responsible person with sufficient knowledge and experience of the system, should be nominated to manage the control scheme effectively. The responsible person also ensures that work carried out by contractors (water treatment or other work) is to the required standards. If several people are made responsible persons, for example to cover shift-work patterns, everyone must know what they are responsible for and how they fit into the overall management of the system.

The L8 ACoP sets out legislative obligations and states that those involved in legionella management: 'should have such ability, experience, instruction, information, training and resources as to allow them to carry out their tasks'. Successful completion of this course the delegate can be regarded as a competent person.
The course is accredited by Envex and a certificate provided.
