• The pitfalls and success in introducing a risk register
• Risk perception and communication • Measuring perception of risk

Session 3 Risk Treatment – Risk Control

• The concept of acceptable risk
• Risk control measures
• Acceptable risk and risk appetite
• Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and guidance
• How to develop a BCP
• Business Continuity Management Code of Practice BS25999-1:2006
• Understanding and the duties of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004

Session 4 Risk Treatment – Risk Financing

• The concept of risk financing and the total cost of risk
• The total cost of risk
• Understanding the nature of loss
• Assesses the financing techniques of transfer, retention and insurance.

Session 5 Corporate Governance, Reporting, Monitoring, Embedding

• Development of Corporate Governance codes in the UK and internationally
• Risk management requirements of the Combined Code & Turnbull Guidance
• Elements of an effective system of internal control
• Why communication, monitoring and reviews are important
• Key requirements for embedding a culture of risk management within an organisation

Course support

• All the course material is provided including a full colour 107 page workbook

• Case studies are presented for analysis and interaction in study groups

• CD/Video highlights the impact of a disaster and the benefits of good business continuity management

• The delegate is awarded the Institute of Risk Management certificate on completion of a short assessment paper
