Introduction
This course covers all of the subject areas recommended by the Health and Safety Executive.
Suitable for
This course is designed for people who have been designated First Aiders at Work (FAW). FAW training includes EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work) and also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses All employers in the UK have a legal obligation to make First Aid provision for their employees.
Guidance on First-Aid Provision
This gives the minimum numbers of people to deal with first-aid emergencies.
Lower risk organisations:
| Under 50 employees | at least one appointed person |
| 50 - 100 employees | at least one first-aider per 100 employed |
| Over 100 employees | one additional first-aider for every 100 |
Medium risk organisations (e.g. light engineering, warehousing):
| Under 20 employees | at least one appointed person |
| 20 - 100 employees | at least one first-aider per 50 employed (or part thereof) |
| Over 100 employees | one additional first-aider for every 100 |
Higher risk organisations (e.g. construction, chemical manufacturer):
| Under 5 employees | at least one appointed person |
| 5 - 50 employees | at least one first-aider |
| Over 50 employees | one additional first-aider for every 50 employed |
